The Cyberpunk Katana

Description

I’ve always love the Cyberpunk art so I decided to use my hands-on skills to bring the art style to life in the form of a hand forged sword! As I have said, this was a tough project both in concept and execution, but I absolutely love the resulting blade. This thing would fit right into a dystopian Cyberpunk city of the future, razor sharp and sinister, yet sleek and sexy at the same time. The blade is forged from two separate pieces of carbon steel which are welded together to form a channel running down the center of the katana. The open channel houses the electroluminescent (EL) wire which produces the glowing effect. The handle and fittings are made of Cerakoted steel for excellent durability and rust protection. The handle is wrapped in EL tape and cotton ito to continue to accentuate the Cyberpunk style while paying homage to a traditional katana. The EL tape and wire are driven by a circuit board and battery box that are encased in the hollow steel handle of the katana. The result is a completely self-contained katana that literally glows.

I do not know the physical limits of this blade, nor do I intend to find them; please keep in mind that I intend for this blade to be a piece of artwork.  I would urge the buyer to treat this balde with extra care for a number or reasons:

1. The blade is welded high carbon steel.  Although the pieces are solidly joined, this is not a common practice as welding heat treated high carbon steel is detrimental to the metallurgical properties of the blade and may cause weak and/or brittle spots in the steel.
2. There is no way to know the true durability of the EL tape and wire. I am hesitant to push the limits as these devices use extremely small and potentially fragile wire in their construction.
3. The EL tape and wire are driven by a PCB which may be not enjoy heavy impact.
